Jeff M. McQuiston

Jeff M. McQuiston is a Director of Entralta in the Life Sciences practice group, and a registered patent attorney. Mr. McQuiston received his Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry from Colorado State University.

Mr. McQuiston has worked closely with inventors in drafting patent applications in the chemical, biochemical, biotechnology, petrochemical, and pharmaceutical fields. He has extensive experience in the procurement and prosecution of patents in the life sciences disciplines. Previously he has been tasked with client counseling in relation to negotiating licenses and technology transfer agreements, performing analyses for infringement and invalidity, handling freedom-to-operate issues, and conducting IP due diligence and audit investigations.

Mr. McQuiston’s background features significant industry experience. He was a lead chemist with extensive expertise in designing and executing synthesis of small molecule organic compounds and optimizing bioactivity of such compounds. He is also experienced in downstream petrochemicals, peptides, DNA monomers, polymorphs, biomarkers, diagnostic, materials science (e.g., nanofluidics) and mechanical inventions. Clients view Mr. McQuiston’s subject matter expertise particularly valuable in the procurement, prosecution, monetization and enforcement of patents in these industry venues.

At TechLaw, LLP, Mr. McQuiston was responsible for the patent application drafting and prosecution of numerous portfolios pertaining to mechanical inventions. In this regard, Mr. McQuiston works closely with the inventors to secure patent protection for mechanical inventions with varying levels of complexity.

While at Chevron Corporation, Mr. McQuiston developed and implemented offensive and defensive IP strategies, conducted patentability and freedom-to-operate searches and performed corresponding analyses. He also counseled on technical issues in IP due diligence, competitive intelligence and IP licensing matters.

At OSI Pharmaceuticals, Inc., Mr. McQuiston was responsible for the prosecution of over 120 patent families world-wide. This extensive effort involved managing diverse pharmaceutical and biotechnology patent portfolios, including performing infringement and invalidity analyses.

At Foley & Lardner, LLP, another firm having a tier one IP practice area, Mr. McQuiston was responsible for the prosecution of numerous portfolios in the areas of medicinal chemistry and life sciences. In his wide-ranging role, he had particular focus on relations with USPTO examiners, through interview intensive methodologies, and on the development of USPTO application of Federal Circuit case law and procedural techniques in relation to prosecution.
